Description :

The mighty Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal) unleashes a maelstrom of bloodshed in the Wild West in this white-knuckle tale of revenge. When he lays waste to the scoundrels who killed his wife and son, a Danish ex-soldier (Mikkelsen) incurs the wrath of a sadistic gang leader hell-bent on hunting him down. Exploding with eye-popping action, dazzlingly dramatic frontier landscapes, and a smoldering performance by Eva Green, THE SALVATION is a rip-roaring, blood-spattered saga of sin and redemption.

Review :
Western fans will like this OK, and Morgan turns in a movie stealing performance much like Kilmer did in Tombstone.
"We've been hoping, praying that someone like you might come along to save us from our misery." Jon (Mikkelsen) has been in America for many years when his wife and child finally arrive. What starts off as happiness turns terrible when two men he is sharing a stagecoach with do the unthinkable. After taking revenge Jon returns to his home to get ready to leave the town. When one of the men's brothers (Morgan) shows up he is forced to face his destiny. I was looking forward to this. I love westerns and there really hasn't been a really good one in a while. The cast alone made this one appealing. While this is not one of the best westerns I have seen it is one of the best in recent years. Mikkelsen does a good job of playing a man bent on revenge, but Jeffery Dean Morgan really steals the movie. He is a perfect choice for a rough and unlikable cowboy looking to exact revenge of his own. Western fans will like this OK, and Morgan turns in a movie stealing performance much like...
Danish Take of Western Movies Starring Mads Mikkelsen
Set in 1871 America, “The Salvation” starts with a mild-mannered Danish settler named Jon (Mads Mikkelsen), who has been in the West with his brother Peter (Mikael Persbrandt) for seven years. Now Jon finally reunites with his wife and son, who have travelled from Europe. One terrible thing happens to them, however, and Jon, driven by anger, kills a young cowboy.

The cowboy happens to be a younger brother of Colonel Delarue (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), leader of the gang who dominates the local town of Black Creek with violence. Delarue sets out for revenge immediately, telling the townspeople to find the murderer. If they don’t, they have to pay the price dearly.

Eva Green plays Delarue's widowed sister-in-law Madelaine (who never speaks deprived of her tongue); Eric Cantona is “The Corsican,” a right-hand man to Delarue; and Jonathan Pryce is slippery Mayor Keane.

“The Salvation” is in a way a love letter to...
If You Love A Great Western, Then This One Might Just Be Your SALVATION
I suspect Western purists already know whether or not they’re going to appreciate THE SALVATION only a few moments in. Granted, director Kristian Levring takes a bit longer than required to help set the mood for this dark and foreboding look into one man’s fall and rebirth through violence, but once the table is set it’s increasingly hard to look away. Mads Mikkelsen is turning in some incredible work these days (both on TV’s underrated HANNIBAL and here), and his portrayal as ‘the common man’ with some uncommon skills gives this story (and the oppressed villagers) so much of the spine needed to carry it from start to finish that you’ll be sad when it’s all over.

(NOTE: The following review will contain minor spoilers necessary solely for the discussion of plot and/or characters. If you’re the type of reader who prefers a review entirely spoiler-free, then I’d encourage you to skip down to the last three...
